This 1.2 kilometre stretch of West Beach runs off-leash from the Anderson Avenue boat ramp north to Hamra Avenue, managed by the City of West Torrens. It is quieter than Henley Beach next door, with calm shallow water and dunes backing the sand.
The rules. Dogs are allowed off-leash 24/7 provided they stay under effective control (voice command or close proximity). The off-leash zone runs strictly between the Anderson Avenue boat ramp in the south and Hamra Avenue in the north - stray past either boundary and leash up. Keep dogs off the dunes to protect the vegetation.
What's there. Poop bags and bins sit at the main access points. Beach showers are at the Anderson Avenue entrance (Harold and Cynthia Anderson Reserve), with a water fountain in the same reserve for a post-swim rinse and drink. Nearby playground areas require dogs back on leash.
Getting there. Street parking runs along Seaview Road, with the best spots near Hamra Avenue and near the Adelaide Sailing Club by the Anderson Avenue boat ramp. Adelaide Metro buses 111, 112, 115 and 117 run along Military Road/Seaview Road. The coastal linear path runs parallel to the beach for an easy walk or ride in.
Tides and crowds. The beach is widest and easiest for walking at low tide; at high tide the sand narrows considerably. Weekends and summer evenings (roughly 6-8pm) draw the biggest crowds. Weekday mornings and Tuesday evenings are quietest. On days over 32 degrees, some beach facilities close earlier than usual.
Nearby with the dogs. Beach Break Café at 1 Seaview Road has dog-friendly outdoor seating right on the beachfront. Scootz Cafe on Burbridge Road is another solid coffee stop nearby. West Beach Surf Club has outdoor seating that allows dogs. For an overnight stay, BIG4 West Beach Parks offers pet-friendly accommodation options - check the current pet policy before booking.

When to go. Weekday mornings for the calmest water and fewest people, or a Tuesday evening for a quiet sunset walk. Good for dogs that are solid off-leash around other dogs and joggers on the linear path, since the strip gets busy fast on warm weekends.
