What visitors mention
Glenelg North's dog beach sits on the sandy stretch beside the West Beach boat ramp on the Patawalonga frontage, a quieter, locals-focused run of sand a short walk north of the main Glenelg tourist strip, with off-leash access most of the year.
The rules. Dogs need to be under effective control at all times, meaning a prompt recall to voice command. Outside daylight saving (roughly April to September) dogs can run off-leash right through the day. During daylight saving, sources differ on the exact on-leash window, so confirm current hours and any hooded plover breeding closures on the City of Holdfast Bay website or the signage at the beach access points before you rely on them. Stick to the sand and boardwalks; the dune vegetation is off-limits.
What's there. There are waste bag dispensers and bins near the main access points, a water fountain with a dog bowl near the boat ramp, and a paved path along the top of the beach with bench seating if you want a break from the sand.
Getting there. Street parking is available along the Esplanade and near the boat ramp, and it fills on warm weekends. Driving from the Adelaide CBD takes about 20 to 30 minutes via Anzac Highway or Airport Road. The Glenelg tram terminates at Moseley Square, roughly a 15 to 20 minute walk south, and buses run along Tapleys Hill Road within walking distance.
Nearby with the dogs. Little Eatery Glenelg on Adelphi Terrace is a short stroll away for coffee and a toastie with outdoor seating, and Haven Marina has pet-friendly rooms if you're staying overnight nearby.

Early mornings and weekdays are calmest, and the beach narrows at high tide, so time a low-tide visit if you want the widest strip of sand for a proper run.
