The small dog park sits inside the same Hazelmere Road Reserve as Glengowrie's main fenced dog park, but it's a separate, fully fenced enclosure set aside for dogs under about 15 kilograms, plus puppies and shy dogs who'd rather not share a run with the big dogs next door.

The rules. This area suits dogs under roughly 15kg. Dogs must stay on leash in the general reserve near the playground, but can run off-leash once inside the fenced small-dog enclosure. Owners need to actively supervise, and waste bags and bins are provided, though it pays to carry your own as backup.

What's there. Established trees give shade, and there are sunny patches too, plus bench seating. The 420 metre concrete path around the broader reserve is handy for a walk before or after park time. Public toilets are available on site.

Getting there. The reserve is at 18 Hazelmere Road, Glengowrie, with parking on site. It's an easy trip from Oaklands Road, and the Glenelg tram line is close by if you're coming from the coast.

Nearby with the dogs. Brighton Road and central Glenelg, both five to ten minutes away, have plenty of dog-friendly cafes to follow up with.

Weekday mornings are quietest. Good for small, shy, or younger dogs who need a calmer introduction to off-leash play before graduating to the main park next door.
