Glengowrie Small Dog Park

The small dog park sits inside Hazelmere Road Reserve in Glengowrie, next door to the suburb's main fenced dog park but in its own separate, fully fenced enclosure. The brief is simple: a secure run for dogs under about 15 kilograms, plus puppies and shy dogs who would rather not share space with the big dogs running next door.

The dog setup

Inside the small-dog enclosure, dogs run off-leash and owners actively supervise. The 15 kilogram guideline is the entry condition, and it is there to keep the play scale sensible; a shy big dog is better served at a quieter time in the main park. Dogs stay on leash in the general reserve, particularly near the playground, and only come off lead once inside the fence. Waste bags and bins are provided, though carrying your own as backup is wise on busy days.

Pepsi: this is the training-wheels park. Small or nervous dogs get a calm run here before graduating to the main enclosure next door.

What is there

Established trees give the enclosure patches of shade with sunny areas in between, and bench seating lets owners park themselves while the dogs work. The broader reserve has a 420 metre concrete path that loops the whole site, which is handy for an on-lead warm-up walk before park time, and public toilets are available on site.

Getting there and parking

The reserve is at 18 Hazelmere Road, Glengowrie, with on-site parking and easy access from Oaklands Road. The Glenelg tram line is close by, so it is reachable from the coast side without a car if you are coming off the tram.

Close by with the dogs
