Hazelmere Road Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Hazelmere Road Reserve is a fully fenced off lead dog park on the corner of Oaklands Road and Hazelmere Road in Glengowrie, one of the larger and better-equipped dog parks in southern Adelaide. A 420 metre concrete path loops the perimeter, and the wider reserve holds a separate small-dog enclosure, a playground and sports courts, so it doubles as a family stop.

The dog setup

The main enclosure is fully fenced with double-gated entries, but effective voice control still applies - you need to see your dog and recall them immediately. Dogs stay on lead everywhere else in the reserve, keep 5 metres clear of the playground and the wetland, and off the courts while sport is on. Registration and vaccination are required with a visible tag, unvaccinated puppies are not permitted, and dogs showing aggression should be removed promptly. Bags and bins are provided, though dispensers run out on busy days - carry spares, because fines apply for mess left behind.

A dedicated fenced area for small, shy or puppy dogs sits within the same reserve, separate from the main space. Drinking fountains come with dog bowls, established trees provide shade, and there are two shelters plus plenty of bench seating. Public toilets with disabled access sit on site, and the concrete loop keeps the circuit usable in wet weather apart from a few muddy patches.

Pepsi: the small-dog yard is separate for a reason - use it if yours is under 15 kilos or new to parks, weekends can hit fifty dogs at a time.

The vibe

This is one of Adelaide's most popular dog parks, and weekends and late afternoons draw big crowds that can overwhelm nervous or reactive dogs - weekday mornings are calmer. The reserve backs onto a retirement village, so keep noise down in the evenings. It is open around the clock but unlit, making daylight the safer bet.

Street parking sits right next to the reserve on Oaklands Road and Hazelmere Road, including accessible bays. Bus routes run along Oaklands Road, and the Glenelg tram line is a short drive away if you are coming from the coast.
