Closer Coffee Shop

Closer on Rose Street, just off the Jetty Road strip in Glenelg, is not a standard cafe: it is a record store, barber and coffee shop in one, with a retro, music-led feel. Coffee is the reason to bring the dog, and it is a relaxed, dog-easy spot that locals wander into on walks.

The dog setup

There is a small outdoor area on Rose Street for sitting with your dog, and well-behaved dogs are often welcome inside while you browse the vinyl. Water bowls are usually about, but check with staff and carry your own to be safe.

Worth knowing

The coffee is the headline, alongside rare vinyl, electronic music and the occasional DJ set, plus a working barber in the back. Hours run Tuesday to Friday from 7am to 4pm, Saturday to 3pm, closed Sunday and Monday, so plan around the short week. Friday mornings draw a run-club crowd, which means more dogs and more bustle early.

Getting there and parking

Rose Street sits a short walk off Jetty Road near Moseley Square. Street parking is limited and metered, so the Jetty Road and council car parks are the steadier option, and the tram from the city drops you in walking distance if you would rather leave the car.

Close by with the dogs

Colley Reserve at the beach end gives you a grassy stretch where City of Holdfast Bay allows off-leash exercise under effective control, and the Glenelg North dog-friendly beach covers sand time with its seasonal time-share rules. Jetty Road itself is a good on-lead wander, and Feed Jetty Road is a fellow dog-friendly stop on the main strip.
