Prince Albert Hotel

The Prince Albert is a restored Victorian corner pub at 254 Wright Street in Adelaide's south-west CBD, pouring since 1852. It is a casual, characterful spot with no pokies, a steady run of live music, and a shaded street verandah that takes dogs, which makes it an easy afternoon or evening out with the dog in the city.

The dog setup

Dogs settle with you under the shaded verandah along the front of the pub, on leash and tucked beside the table. Staff are used to dogs and will usually bring out a water bowl, but pack your own travel bowl to be sure. The verandah fronts Wright Street, so keep a settled dog close when the footpath is busy. If you want a guaranteed outdoor table on a sunny weekend, arrive early or book ahead.

Worth knowing

The kitchen does pub fare with restaurant care: a pickle-brined chicken schnitzel, steak frites, South Australian salt and pepper squid, roast pork burgers and rotating daily curries, with vegan and vegetarian plates such as the eggplant parmigiana alongside. The taps lean craft, the cellar door list is South Australian wine, and cocktails are on the cards. Live music is a regular fixture, so check the gig calendar if you want a quieter night; early afternoon is the calm window for a dog still learning to settle.

The pub sits at 254 Wright Street, just west of Whitmore Square and a short walk from the South Parklands. Free street parking is usually findable along Wright Street and the surrounding blocks, though it tightens up on live music nights.

Close by with the dogs

The South Parklands are a short walk for a pre- or post-pub leg-stretch, and the City of Adelaide runs dedicated off-leash areas through the park lands for dogs under effective control. On the pub circuit, General Havelock and The Duke of Brunswick Hotel both run dog-friendly outdoor seating nearby, and All Dog Park gives you a fenced run option in the city.
