What visitors mention
The Duke of Brunswick, the Dob to locals, is a corner pub on Gilbert Street in the south-west CBD that has built its reputation on being genuinely dog-friendly. The draw is the leafy beer garden out back and a monthly charity Dog Day, plus a kitchen that happens to be entirely gluten-free.
The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor front area and the back garden (the pub calls it the Secret Garden), both shaded and comfortable. Under SA law only assistance dogs can come inside a licensed venue, so plan to sit outside. Water bowls are provided, and there is a dog menu of house-made treats. Keep your dog leashed.
Good to know. The kitchen is accredited 100 per cent gluten-free by Coeliac Australia, which makes the Dob a safe bet for coeliac diners, an unusual thing for a pub. On the second Sunday of each month it runs a Dog Day supporting animal welfare causes, with treats and a crowd of regulars and their dogs. Expect a casual, community feel rather than a polished gastropub.
Getting there and parking. The pub is at 207 Gilbert Street. Free street parking is around the surrounding blocks but fills in the evenings. The tram runs along King William Street a short walk east, and the South Parklands are one block south.
Nearby with the dogs. Veale Gardens and the South Terrace parklands are within an easy walk for a pre- or post-pub leg-stretch, and Hutt Street's cafe strip is close for a coffee afterwards.

The back garden is the spot on a warm afternoon; the front opens up if the garden is full on a Dog Day. A reliable, low-key choice if you want a meal out with the dog in the CBD.
