The Precinct Cafe is a relaxed weekday coffee-and-breakfast spot on Carrington Street in the south CBD, well regarded for its coffee and popular with city workers. Dogs are welcome at the footpath tables, which makes it a handy stop on a morning walk through the southern squares.

The dog setup. Dogs join you at the outdoor seating on the Carrington Street footpath, a prime corner for people- and pup-watching. Staff are friendly and accommodating and will usually bring water; pack your own bowl as backup. Keep the dog leashed and clear of the footpath.

Good to know. The draw is the coffee, rated among the best on the southern side of the CBD, alongside hearty breakfasts and quick lunches. It trades weekdays only (roughly 7am to 2pm) and is closed on weekends, so this is a working-week stop rather than a weekend brunch.

Getting there and parking. The cafe is at 27 Carrington Street. Street parking on Carrington Street is limited, with paid parking nearby. It is an easy walk from King William Street and Hurtle Square.

Nearby with the dogs. Hurtle Square is a two-minute walk east with grassed areas for a quick leg-stretch, and Victoria Square (Tarntanyangga) is about five minutes west for a larger open space.

Mid-morning on a weekday is the sweet spot, after the early work rush; remember it is closed weekends. A solid coffee stop if your walk takes you through the south CBD on a weekday.
