Adelaide Fenced Dog Park (Small Dogs)

This is the small-dog enclosure of Pityarilla Dog Park, the fully fenced off-leash park inside the Pelzer Park / Pityarilla Activity Hub on South Terrace in the southern Park Lands. It is a separate, gated section reserved for small dogs, which means little dogs get a proper run without big dogs in the mix.

The dog setup

The enclosure is limited to dogs 14kg and under, and puppies under four months are not permitted. Dogs need to be registered, vaccinated and wearing a visible registration disc, and under effective control while inside. Keep the leash on until both gates are closed behind you; the double-gate airlock only works if the outer gate is shut before you open the inner one.

Max: check the latches on the way in and out. The airlock design is the whole point of a small-dog yard, so it only takes one propped gate to undo it.

Worth knowing

The wider Pityarilla park is well equipped: night lighting runs until about 10pm, which makes early mornings and evenings usable year-round, and there are water features and fountains for cooling dogs off, sheltered seating, bins with courtesy bag dispensers, and logs and rocks for natural play. Food, alcohol and bicycles are not allowed inside the fenced enclosures, and children need close adult supervision.

Getting there and parking

The park sits in the South Park Lands off South Terrace, near the Hutt Street corner. Street parking runs along South Terrace and the surrounding streets, and the Glen Osmond Road entrance to the wider dog park is another way in. The tram along South Terrace stops close by, and the Hutt Street cafe strip is a short walk north.

The vibe

This is a reassuring, well-kept spot for small or timid dogs in the heart of the city, and the fenced yard takes the guesswork out of mixing with unfamiliar dogs. Mid-morning and after dinner under the lights tend to be the easy windows. It pairs naturally with a coffee stop on Hutt Street on the walk back.

While you're out there

For a footpath coffee, Peter Rabbit Cafe is a short drive into the east end, and General Havelock is the pub option nearby. For a bigger run, All Dog Park is the other fenced city option.
