Biga Café

Biga is a busy corner cafe on Hutt Street that the City of Adelaide itself lists among the street's most dog-welcoming, which is about as solid a citation as an Adelaide cafe gets. It is a breakfast and brunch spot first, but the sheltered footpath tables, the biscuits behind the counter and the wall of photos of doggy regulars make it a genuine dog stop.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the spacious, sheltered outdoor seating along the footpath. The team is attentive and will often bring a water bowl and a dog biscuit without being asked, which is the difference between tolerated and welcomed. Sit outside for everyone's comfort, and carry your own bowl on hot days as backup. There is no indoor access for dogs.

The vibe and the menu

The kitchen runs a hearty all-day breakfast: French toast, a breakfast burger, a big greens plate and eggs benedict among the regular orders, on Coffex coffee. Smoothie bowls and gluten-free bread keep the table with dietary needs happy. Doors open at 6am every day and the kitchen winds down around 2pm, so it is a morning-to-early-afternoon proposition. Weekend brunch gets a queue, so an early table is worth the alarm.

Getting there and parking

Biga sits at 200 Hutt Street toward the southern end of the strip. Metered parking runs along Hutt Street and the side streets like Gilles Street and East Terrace, so mind the time limits, and buses along Hutt Street cover anyone arriving car-free.

Make a day of it

The South Parklands are a few minutes' walk for a pre- or post-brunch run. The off-lead options at All Dog Park and the small-dog fenced area at Adelaide Fenced Dog Park are both in the CBD for a proper session. Peter Rabbit Cafe is the other Hutt Street district dog-friendly brunch heavyweight if you are making a lap of the strip.
