Civic Centre Reserve is a convenient off-leash strip behind the Wyndham City Civic Centre in Werribee, a long, narrow run of grass, roughly 25 metres wide by 300 long, tucked between the council car park and the train line. A mesh fence on the rail side adds a bit of security, though the rest is open.

The rules. Leash up entering and exiting the area. Dogs must be under effective voice control and recalled or restrained when other dogs or people are near. A current registration tag is required, and dogs must not chase wildlife or enter nearby waterways. Clean up after your dog.

What's there. Two shaded picnic tables at the western end and mature trees giving decent shade. There is wheelchair-accessible parking and entry. No water is provided, so bring your own bowl.

Max's takegerman shepherd
It is long and skinny, so two fast dogs fill it quickly, and trains pass close by. If yours startles at sudden noise, this is not the spot for a relaxed run.

Getting there. The reserve is at the rear of 45 Princes Highway, with parking in the Civic Centre car park. Werribee Station is within walking distance.

When to go. Busiest on weekend mornings and weekday late afternoons after work and school. Weekday mid-morning gives you the most room.
