The South Corner

The South Corner is a relaxed neighbourhood cafe at 11 Wedge Street South in Werribee, set in a former corner milk bar away from the main-street bustle. It actively welcomes dogs in the alfresco seating, which makes it an easy, low-key brunch stop in a suburb with plenty of green space to walk off breakfast.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the street-side outdoor tables and stay leashed in the designated alfresco area; the indoors is not for dogs. The cafe leans into the pet traffic with puppaccinos and treats at the counter and water bowls for visiting dogs, so on a sunny morning the footpath seats fill with regulars and their dogs.

The vibe

Specialty coffee and a solid brunch menu are the draw: breakfast muffins, poached eggs, acai bowls and banana bread, with a good run of vegetarian and vegan options. The former milk bar shell gives it a city-style fit-out with a suburban, unhurried feel, and the staff are known for being welcoming.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits in a residential pocket off the main drag, and free street parking is usually easier than central Werribee. Doors open from 6am on weekdays and 7am on weekends, closing mid-afternoon, so it is a breakfast-and-lunch proposition rather than an all-day one.

Make a day of it

The Werribee River trail is close by for an on-lead riverside walk, and Diversion Weir Dog Off Leash Area adds a proper free-running session a short drive away. For another coffee stop, Wolf on Watton sits on the main street, and Bridge Hotel Werribee pours for the lunch crowd.
