Turquoise Place Park Dog Off-Leash Area

The Turquoise Place Park off-leash area is a small neighbourhood run off Hamilton Road in Wavell Heights, backing onto the Kedron Brook catchment. It is open around the clock and rarely crowded, and the brook access on the doorstep makes it a genuine pick for water-loving dogs who would rather paddle than share a big park's turf.

The dog setup

This is a designated Brisbane City Council off-leash area on open grassed space, largely open to the brook rather than fully fenced, so reliable recall is the entry requirement. Leash up in the car park and surrounding streets before you unclip, and keep dogs leashed on the shared concrete bikeway and walkways that run along the brook corridor. Carry bags, use the bins provided, and keep dogs clear of the children's playground zones and any conservation plantings along the water. Regulated dangerous or menacing dogs are not permitted.

The water

Direct access to Kedron Brook is the reason to come. Dogs that like a swim can paddle and play in the shallows on most days, but the brook is a floodplain waterway and rises fast after rain. Check the flow before you let a dog in, and skip the water entirely when it is running high or murky. The grassed space above the bank still works as a run when the water is out.

Getting there and parking

Access is via Turquoise Place, which turns off Hamilton Road. Street parking along Turquoise Place is limited to a handful of spaces, so arrive early at peak times. Bus stops on Hamilton Road put you within a short walk through the residential streets.

Close by with the dogs

The suburb's other option is the Wavell Dog Off Leash Area if this one is full. If the open brook boundary does not suit your dog, Boyd Park in Nundah and Bradbury Park in Kedron are both fenced enclosures nearby, and the Kedron Brook Floodway off-leash area in Wooloowin follows the same corridor further east.
