Stiggant Reserve sits just behind the Warrandyte shopping strip on Stiggant Street, a leafy riverside reserve with an open grassy off-leash space close to the township. It is handy when you want to pair a dog run with a coffee or the monthly market.

The rules. Dogs can be off-leash in the designated areas under effective voice control. Leads are required within 15 metres of the children's play equipment, permanent BBQ facilities, and during organised sporting events, functions or public meetings. Dogs must also be on-lead during community events, including the monthly Warrandyte market, and along the river walkway near the Warrandyte Bridge. Clean up after your dog; bring your own bags.

What's there. Public toilets, a shelter and BBQ facilities, a children's playground (on-lead zone), and on-site parking off Stiggant Street. Water access for dogs within the reserve is limited, so bring a bowl.

Getting there. Accessible via Yarra Street (Main Road), directly behind the shopping strip. PTV buses run along Yarra Street, a short walk from the reserve.

On the first Saturday of the month the Warrandyte market changes the whole flow of the area and it gets crowded. Lead on, or come early.

When to go. Busiest on weekends, particularly Sunday mornings and market days. Weekday afternoons are much calmer, which suits anxious dogs.
