BJ Hubbard Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

BJ Hubbard Reserve at 49 Evelyn Road, Ringwood North, is a 7.2-hectare bushland reserve where the open oval and recreation area are designated off-leash. It is quieter and more natural than the fenced suburban parks nearby, which makes it a good pick for a dog that wants space rather than a social scrum. Note it is unfenced, so honest recall is the price of entry.

The rules. Off the lead, your dog must stay under effective voice or hand control and in sight. Leads go back on within 15 metres of the playground, barbecue and picnic areas, and on shared paths. If the oval is booked for organised sport or training, dogs are on-leash. Keep dogs leashed in the dense bushland to protect local wildlife, carry a lead at all times, and pick up after your dog.

What's there. An open grassy oval ringed by mature trees for shade, and an on-site car park off Evelyn Road. Facilities are minimal: no public toilets, no drinking fountains, and no dog-waste bags supplied, so bring your own water, bowl and bags.

Getting there. Drive in via Evelyn Road or Kubis Drive to the on-site car park. Buses run along Wonga Road and Warrandyte Road, leaving a short walk to the entrance.

Nearby with the dogs. The Warrandyte Road shopping strip in Ringwood North has cafes with outdoor seating a short drive away, including This Little Kitchen.

Weekday mid-mornings and later weekend mornings are the calmest; early mornings and the 4pm to 6pm window are busiest. Best for reactive dogs or those who just want room to run away from a crowd.
