Parkwood Fenced Dog Park at 35-39 Tortice Drive, Ringwood North, is a fully fenced, off-leash space run by Maroondah City Council, with separate zones so smaller or nervous dogs get their own room to move. The full fencing is the whole reason to choose this one over the district's open reserves: you can let a bolter off the lead without watching the exits.

The rules. Keep your dog on-leash until you are inside the fenced gates, then it is off-leash under voice control. Dogs should be vaccinated and over six months old, and no dogs on heat or showing aggression. Council asks that you leave personal toys and food at home, since both spark squabbles; only hidden treats are okay. Greyhounds must stay leashed under Victorian law. Clean up after your dog; bins are provided.

What's there. Secure perimeter fencing, a separate section for timid and small dogs, a sand pit and a tunnel for play, water points, waste bags and bins, seating for handlers, and shaded areas. On-site parking sits right by the gate.

Getting there. Drive in via Warrandyte Road (Route C724); the dedicated car park is adjacent to the facility. On public transport, Ringwood Station on the Lilydale and Belgrave lines is the nearest rail, with bus route 364 along Warrandyte Road getting you close for the final leg.

Nearby with the dogs. Slow Lane Coffee is on the same site, so coffee-then-run is the standard move. This Little Kitchen on Warrandyte Road has dog-welcoming outdoor seating a short drive away.

Two separate zones is the reason to come here. If your dog is small, shy or still learning the ropes, use the quieter side and skip the scrum on the main lawn until they have found their feet.

Weekends and the early-morning and evening weekday windows are the busiest and most social. For a first visit or a cautious dog, aim for a quieter mid-morning or midday slot, and if the main pen is rowdy, wait it out or walk the adjacent on-leash paths first.
