Gracedale Park is a large open reserve on the Bayswater North and Ringwood East boundary, off-leash across the oval and green space at all times except when organised sport is running. The draw is the room to run plus direct access to the Tarralla Creek Trail for a longer walk after.

The rules. Off-leash across the open space whenever sport is not on. Dogs go back on-leash within 15 metres of the playground, BBQ and picnic areas, and during any training or matches. The shared walking and cycling paths, including the Tarralla Creek Trail, are on-leash. The reserve is unfenced and sits near roads, so reliable recall is not optional here.

What's there. A dedicated car park off Berry Road, a drinking fountain, a large covered picnic shelter, public toilets, plus a playground and tennis courts. Bring your own waste bags, as they are not always stocked.

The lower sections near the creek turn muddy through winter. Keep a towel in the car and mind the unfenced edge closest to the road.

Getting there. Off Mt Dandenong Road, with the main car park at the end of Berry Road. Buses run along Mt Dandenong Road, and it is a moderate walk from Ringwood East Station.

When to go. Weekday afternoons from 4pm to 6pm and weekend mornings are busiest. Come mid-morning for more space, and check the oval is free of a football fixture in winter, though the perimeter usually stays open either way.
