The process matters here: you must contact management before confirming your booking to get your dog approved, pay the pet surcharge, and then enter the Pet Approval Code you are issued on your check-in form. Dogs without an approval code are not accepted on the property. Dogs are the only pets catered for, with no cats, birds or other animals. Outside the cottage your dog stays on lead at all times; the property has no fenced yard, so a secure outdoor run is not part of the deal. You pick up after your dog into the outdoor bin, and well-behaved house manners are expected while inside.

The vibe

The cottages lean romantic and quiet: spa bath, fireplace, a kitchen or kitchenette for self-catering, and enough separation between cottages that you are not sharing a wall with anyone. Reviews run mixed to warm, with the cosy interiors and mountain quiet winning more praise than the ageing fittings. This is a nest for two humans and a settled dog, not a base for a boisterous pack.

Getting there and parking

The cottages sit on the Mount Dandenong Tourist Road, reached from Melbourne via the Monash Freeway and Burwood Highway in about an hour without traffic. Each cottage has its own off-street parking directly out front.

Make a day of it

Because the cottages are not fenced, plan your dog's off-lead time elsewhere: the Old Olinda Golf Course Dog Off Leash Area is up the road, and the Mathias Walking Track handles the on-lead forest walks. SkyHigh Mount Dandenong is a short drive for leashed dogs on its lawns, and Fernglen Forest Retreat is the nearby alternative if you want a pet stay with fenced outdoor space.
