Aranga Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Aranga Reserve is Donvale's fully fenced dog park on Eastway Avenue, and the double-gated entry is the reason to bring a dog who bolts or a pup still learning recall. The yard is a good size, well used by locals, and it has a separate area that keeps smaller or shyer dogs away from the confident crowd.

The dog setup

Off-leash applies only inside the fenced perimeter; the surrounding reserve stays on-leash. Owners are expected to stay with their dogs and supervise. Inside there are basic agility obstacles, water taps with bowls, and plenty of benches, some in shade. The small dog area does real work here, giving timid dogs room to move without a big dog arriving mid-game. Bins and bags sit near the gates. A children's playground sits just outside the fence, which helps families, though keep an eye on the fence line if your dog is excitable around kids.

Max: two gates only stop escapes if you use them properly. Get inside the airlock, latch the outer gate, then unclip. Reverse it on the way out.

Worth knowing

Lighting is limited in the evening, so a torch helps in winter. The ground churns up after heavy rain and expects muddy paws. Crowds peak on weekday mornings, in the after-work window around 5pm to 6pm, and on weekend mornings; for a quieter session, aim for the weekday midday lull between 11am and 2pm. The park suits social dogs who want company, and nervous dogs too, if you pick the calm hours and use the small dog side.

Getting there and parking

The entrance is on Eastway Avenue and parking there is tight; Darvall Street usually has room. Nearest buses run on Springvale Road, a short walk away.

For a change of run, Woolerton Reserve Dog Off Leash Area is the other Donvale option, and Boronia Grove Reserve Dog Off Leash Area sits over the border at Doncaster East. For a post-run coffee, Bob's Your Uncle Cafe at Doncaster East is a local fixture.
