Woolerton Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Woolerton Reserve is a quiet, unfenced off-leash pocket on Woolerton Court in Donvale, where the whole reserve runs as a free-roam area under Manningham rules. It is a low-traffic patch of open grass ringed by mature trees, and the draw is space and calm rather than a social scene. If your dog needs a fenced run or a crowd of playmates, this is not that park.

The dog setup

There is no fence here and no dedicated dog infrastructure, just open grass with natural shade from the surrounding trees. Dogs may be off-leash provided they stay under effective voice or hand control the whole time, and the reserve's bushy edges make it easy for a wandering nose to disappear, so reliable recall matters more than it does at most suburban reserves.

Manningham's standard buffer rules apply: back on the lead within about 10 to 15 metres of any playground or barbecue and during organised events, and always carry a lead so you can clip up near the street boundaries. It also has an environmental and drainage role for the neighbourhood, so keep dogs out of the planted sections and off neighbouring front gardens. Bins are provided on site, but bags are not guaranteed, and there is no confirmed water tap, so carry your own water and bowl.

Max: unfenced and bordered by streets. Only unclip if the recall is solid, and keep a lead in hand near the road edges.

Worth knowing

This is a pocket park for pottering, not sprinting. The crowd is thin most of the day, with early mornings and late afternoons drawing the few locals who use it, and a weekday early afternoon is about as quiet as it gets. If you want fencing, playgrounds or toilets, none of that exists here, which is exactly the point for dogs that find busy parks overwhelming.

Getting there and parking

The reserve sits in a residential pocket reached via local streets off Mitcham Road or Springvale Road. There is no off-street car park, so rely on roadside parking along Woolerton Court, which is usually easy to find on a quiet street. Buses run along Mitcham Road and it is a short walk in from there.

Close by with the dogs

If the unfenced setup is a dealbreaker, Aranga Reserve's fenced dog park in the same suburb gives you a secure enclosure instead. Murndal Reserve is another quiet Donvale option, and Ruffey Lake Park at Doncaster East is the big-name walk in the area.
