Murndal Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Murndal Reserve is a large, sloping off-leash reserve on Murndal Drive in Donvale, mostly open grass with room for a dog to open up. It is partly fenced rather than fully enclosed, open at the top of the hill, so it sits between a secure park and a plain paddock.

The rules. Off-leash under Manningham rules, with dogs under voice or hand-signal control at all times; do not unclip a dog without reliable recall given the open western side. Dogs must be on-leash within 15 metres of any children's playground or scheduled sporting event. Aggressive dogs are not welcome. A neighbouring property to the east has a dog, so keep yours off private land.

What's there. Seating for owners, limited shade, and easy free on-street parking on Murndal Drive. Bag dispensers are not reliably stocked, so bring your own, and pack water as there is no confirmed tap.

Getting there. Reached off Mitcham Road and Doncaster Road, handy from both Donvale and Mitcham. The nearest buses stop on Doncaster Road, a short walk from Murndal Drive.

Nearby with the dogs. Tunstall Square in Doncaster East has cafes with outdoor seating, and Down The Rabbit Hole in Templestowe is a reliable dog-friendly stop for afterwards.

When to go. Busiest on weekends and after 4pm on weekdays; weekday mornings and mid-afternoons are calmer. Its size means it rarely feels crowded, so it is a good spot to practise recall away from other dogs.
