Dark Horse on the Brit is a busy all-day cafe in Britannia Mall, right in the middle of Mitcham, and it has a reputation locally as one of the easier dog-friendly stops in the area thanks to a large outdoor deck.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome on the outdoor deck and in the seating that spills into the pedestrianised mall. Indoors is for people only, as is standard for a working kitchen. Staff are used to dogs turning up and are generally happy to have them around, though a water bowl isn't guaranteed, so bring your own on a warm day.

Known for. All-day breakfast, smashed avo, and a solid vegetarian and vegan menu, alongside the usual brunch favourites. It's a popular weekend spot, so expect the deck to fill up on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Getting there and parking. There's a large free public car park right next to the cafe, and it's a short walk from Mitcham railway station if you're coming by train.

Nearby with the dogs. Simpson Park's off-leash area is a short drive away for a proper run after coffee, and Britannia Mall itself is flat and easy for a quick stroll with your dog before or after you eat.
