Davy Lane Dog Off Leash Area

Davy Lane's off-leash area is a long, narrow strip in Forest Hill running between Canterbury Road and the Springvale Road end, roughly 530 metres of straight, tree-lined track. It's open 24 hours, and the length makes it a solid option for dogs that want a proper run rather than a lap of a small oval.

The rules. This strip is not fenced and open at both ends, so effective control matters more here than at a fenced park. Your dog needs to stay within 25 metres, in sight, and return immediately when called. Carry a lead of no more than 1.5 metres in case you need to put your dog back on it. Keep off the adjoining sports fields, and stay 2.5 metres clear of playgrounds or any organised sport in progress.

What's there. Amenities are basic. Free street parking runs along Davy Lane, but there are no poo bag dispensers and no public toilets, so bring your own bags. A tap is sometimes present but not reliable, so bring water and a bowl rather than counting on it.

Getting there. Drive in via Davy Lane off Canterbury Road, or walk in from the surrounding residential streets. Bus stops on Canterbury Road and Springvale Road are a short walk from the entrances.

Early mornings and late afternoons on weekdays draw the regulars, and weekends are busy throughout. For a quieter run, aim for a weekday mid-morning or early afternoon.
