Terrara Park Dog Off Leash Area

Terrara Park is a large, open off-leash reserve at 127 Terrara Road, Vermont South, popular with local owners for its sheer grassy expanse and mature shade trees. The single deciding fact: it is a high-traffic, social park built for running and fetching, not a quiet retreat.

The rules. Dogs can be off-leash in the designated area but must stay under effective voice control at all times. Because the reserve shares space with Whitehorse United Soccer Club, dogs are not permitted on sports fields during organised matches or training. Keep dogs at least 2.5 metres from playgrounds and permanent barbecue or picnic areas, and always pick up waste for the provided bins.

What's there. Expect mostly flat, open grass lined with mature trees that provide natural shade and seating along the edges. A drinking tap with an attached bowl sits near the north-east corner, and rubbish bins are distributed throughout. The playground is extensive but sits in the on-leash zone.

Getting there and parking. A large, free off-street car park sits on the northern side of the reserve. Approach via High Street Road or Burwood Highway, turning onto Terrara Road. By tram, catch Route 75 to Stop 71 (Vermont South Shopping Centre/Burwood Highway) and walk a short distance down Terrara Road. Note that the car park fills quickly during peak sports training times.

Watch-outs. This is a busy suburban park with high dog traffic, not a peaceful getaway. Weeknights during soccer season see heavy sports field usage, which reduces the available off-leash footprint.

Nearby with the dogs. For a post-walk coffee, head towards Glen Waverley and try Café 1809 or Willow Ave General Store. The Peddler Cafe in Nunawading is another solid option a short drive north.

When to go. The park peaks between 4 PM and 7 PM on weekdays and on weekend mornings. Weekday mornings and midday are the quietest slots. Good for sociable dogs and owners who want a lively local circuit.
