Lynette Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Lynette Reserve is a quiet bushland pocket on Lynette Avenue in residential Warrandyte, running off-lead in a natural setting of sloping ground, light bush and a gravel track. It is the calm counterpart to the busier river reserves in town, which makes it a regular pick for dogs who want space over a crowd.

The rules

Manningham City Council allows dogs off-lead in the designated reserve area under effective voice control. Leash on in the surrounding residential streets and parking approaches, and keep your dog out of the children's playground footprint entirely. Bag and bin waste, and carry spare bags even though bins are usually provided. Confirm boundaries on the council signage on site.

Fencing and terrain

No fencing. The reserve slopes, with light bushland and a narrow gravel track, and parts sit close to residential back fences and roads. If your dog bolts or has patchy recall, treat this as an on-lead walk rather than an off-lead run.

Max: this is the sniffing park, not the sprinting park. The bush is full of wallaby and possum news, and a slow lead-off wander suits me better than ball work here.

What is there

Deliberately little: the bush trail, a small playground for the two-legged end of the family, and on-street parking along Lynette Avenue. No water tap and no facilities of note, so bring water in warmer months. It is a car trip park rather than a walking-in destination for most visitors.

Close by with the dogs

For a bigger run, the Warrandyte Reserve off-lead area adds river frontage and swimming shallows a few minutes away. For coffee afterwards, Little Gem Cafe in the township is dog friendly.

When to go

Weekday mornings and early afternoons are the quietest stretches, and weekend mornings draw a few more locals. The bush canopy gives decent summer shade, but the track turns muddy after rain, so pack a towel for the car.
