Truro Fenced Dog Park

Truro Fenced Dog Park sits inside Pioneer Park at 28 James Street West, just off the Sturt Highway in the small township of Truro. Small, open and rustic, it is best treated as a practical exercise and toilet stop for dogs on the long drive between Adelaide and the Riverland rather than a destination park in its own right.

The dog setup

The enclosure is fully fenced with secure, full-height fencing and a gated entry, so keep your dog on the lead until you are both safely inside. Once in, dogs are off-leash but must stay under effective control, and any dog showing aggression needs to be removed straight away. There is no separate small-dog section, so small and large dogs share the same space, which is worth thinking about if yours is nervous around bigger breeds. Bag dispensers and bins are provided for clean-up.

Worth knowing

Facilities are better than the park's size suggests: a two-level drinking fountain serves both people and dogs, covered seating gives owners somewhere to sit, and a small children's playground next door makes it a workable family stop. The compact size suits a training session or a contained stretch for road-trip dogs rather than a long game of chase. As a highway town, Truro gets most of its traffic mid-morning and mid-afternoon, while early evening is usually quiet.

Getting there and parking

Pioneer Park sits just off the Sturt Highway on James Street West, near the main street. Kerbside parking, including an accessible space, sits directly within the park boundary. This is a driving destination, plain and simple.

Close by with the dogs

If you are continuing into the Barossa, the Nuriootpa Fenced Dog Park is roughly 13 kilometres away with a similar enclosed setup, and wineries such as Kaesler Wines welcome dogs at their cellar doors. Melba's Chocolates in Angaston is a handy family stop, and BIG4 Barossa Tourist Park takes pets if you are breaking the trip overnight.
