Green Gully Linear Park Dog Off Leash Area

Green Gully Linear Park is a long, narrow off-leash corridor threading through Templestowe, combining open grass, a creek and wetland system, and a shared path along its length. The linear shape is the whole appeal: even when the main entries are busy, walking another few hundred metres down the trail usually opens up quiet space.

The dog setup

Dogs are off-leash in the designated grassed sections under effective voice control, and you still need to carry a lead. The leash comes back on within 15 metres of any playground or barbecue area, near roads such as Porter Street and Glendarragh Road, and during organised sport. The shared path carries cyclists the full length, so keep your dog close when bikes pass. Carry bags and use the bins provided, and confirm the exact off-leash boundaries on Manningham Council signage when you arrive.

Worth knowing

Amenities are simple: sealed and unsealed trails, drinking fountains and seating along the path network, and waste bins at the access points. There is no dedicated dog water tap in the gully itself, so bring your own supply. The creek draws water-loving dogs and the banks turn muddy after rain, so expect a wet, dirty dog if they reach the wetland. Mid-week mornings are the quiet window; Saturday mornings and weekday evenings from about 4:30pm are busiest, when the shared path also fills with walkers and runners.

Max: the creek is the whole point. Bring a towel, mum, because I will find the mud.

Getting there and parking

The off-leash corridor stretches from Heidelberg-Warrandyte Road down past Porter Street towards Rubens Place, so pick your entry based on how far you want to walk. Local street parking sits near Rubens Place for the southern grassed stretches and around Shakespeare Drive and Jenkins Park at the other end. Buses along Porter Street leave a short walk to the nearest entrance.

Close by with the dogs

Pair a visit with Templestowe Reserve Dog Off Leash Area nearby, or Aranga Reserve Fenced Dog Park in Donvale when you want a fully enclosed run. Koonung Creek Linear Park offers a similar creek-side corridor, and Secret Grounds Cafe in Doncaster is the coffee stop afterwards.
