Tempe Dog Park

Tempe Dog Park sits inside Tempe Recreation Reserve on Holbeach Avenue, a fully fenced, floodlit off-leash area open around the clock and one of the busier dog parks in Sydney's Inner West. It is split into two separate enclosures, one for small dogs and one for large, which makes it a solid pick if your dog is nervous around bigger breeds.

The dog setup

Both the small and large sections are securely fenced with double-gate entries, so escapes through an open gate are unlikely. Dogs run off-leash only inside the enclosures; leash up everywhere else in the reserve, including the sports fields, playground and picnic areas.

Inner West Council's standard off-leash rules apply: stay inside the enclosure with your dog under direct supervision, leash and remove any dog showing aggression, and clean up immediately, with your own bags as backup since the on-site supply is not guaranteed.

There is a dog water fountain, shaded seating inside the enclosures and public toilets on site, and floodlighting keeps the park usable well after dark in winter.

Max: if your dog is shy around bigger breeds, use the small dog enclosure rather than braving the main run, especially on a busy weeknight.

The vibe

This is a sociable park with a regular crowd. Weeknight evenings, especially Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, plus Sunday evenings, are the busiest windows, while Tuesday mornings and Wednesday afternoons are noticeably quieter. Weekends are popular but rarely overwhelming.

Getting there and parking

A dedicated free car park sits right next to the reserve on Holbeach Avenue, and the park is wheelchair accessible. Tempe station is a 10 to 15 minute walk away if you are coming by train.

Close by with the dogs

Good Days Cafe is the local coffee stop, and more dog-friendly options line the way into Wolli Creek, including Where's Wolli Cafe.
