Cahill Park Fenced Dog Park

Cahill Park Fenced Dog Park sits on the Cooks River foreshore at the corner of Levey Street and Rockwell Avenue in Wolli Creek, a fully fenced, double-gated off-leash enclosure that runs around the clock. For the apartment-dense streets around Wolli Creek and Tempe, it is the local dog social club: busy, well supplied, and full of regulars who actually chat while the dogs wear each other out.

The dog setup

The enclosure is fully fenced with double-gated entry, and Bayside Council rules are the standard ones: leash up entering and exiting, off-lead only inside, dog under effective voice control at all times, and any aggressive or antisocial behaviour means leashing up and leaving immediately. Dogs must be microchipped and registered, kept 10 metres clear of the playground and food areas outside the fence, and cleaned up after on the spot.

Inside you get a grass and dirt surface that muddies after rain, a communal water tap with a bowl, compostable poo bags in the dispensers with their own bin, and benches for owners. Shade is limited in parts, so summer sessions are better early or late.

Max: The vertical bars on the fence have gaps wide enough for very small puppies or tiny breeds to slip through, so keep a close eye on little dogs near the fence line.

The vibe

Mornings from 7 to 9am and afternoons from 4 to 6:30pm are the busy stretches, especially weekends. Weekday mid-morning or mid-afternoon is the calm window for shy dogs. Getting there and parking

Wolli Creek Station is a 5 to 10 minute walk, which is the easy way in. Parking is the park's weak point: the on-site car park fills with rideshare drivers waiting for airport fares, so surrounding residential street parking is usually the better bet, and even that gets competitive. The Cooks River walking and cycling path runs straight past.

Close by with the dogs

Where's Wolli Cafe next door has a covered outdoor area looking into the park, and Kals on Cahill on the riverbank is a short walk, both taking dogs at outdoor tables.
