The Erko Hotel

The Erko Hotel on Erskineville Road is the inner west's most dog-forward pub: dogs are treated as regulars rather than an afterthought, with their own menu, a Dog Wall of Fame and free feeds for dogs on Saturdays. The Dogs of the Erko menu covers the four-legged diners, and dogs eat free every Saturday from midday to 4pm with any main meal purchase. The Dog Wall of Fame by the bar photos the regulars, and getting your dog on it is apparently a point of local pride.

The vibe and the food

Classic pub food done well: the parmigiana and the burgers carry the reputation, and there is live music and trivia through the week. It gets busy, particularly during the Saturday free-feed hours, so book ahead for weekend lunches if you want a courtyard table with room for the dog to settle.
