Barmuda

Barmuda is a relaxed all-day cafe on Australia Street in Newtown, a couple of minutes' walk from the station, and a solid pick when you want brunch with the dog underfoot rather than at home. The front outdoor seating along Australia Street is where dogs are welcome.

The menu mixes brunch classics with Asian-inspired plates: the potato stack is the order people come back for, alongside kimchi fried rice, a chicken katsu sando and a bacon and egg roll, and the coffee comes from The Little Marionette. Reviewers mention friendly staff, short waits and the occasional free brownie, which tells you most of what you need about the service culture. Hours run from 7am, closing at 4:30pm on weekdays and 5pm on weekends.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits on Australia Street, Newtown, near the Pride Square end and within easy walking distance of Newtown Station, so arriving on foot with the dog is the natural option. Street parking around Australia Street is scarce at peak times; you are better off walking or catching the train.

Close by with the dogs

The Enmore Fenced Dog Park is the nearest off-lead option a short walk up the hill, and Harry Noble Reserve at Erskineville adds a bigger run. For another dog-friendly coffee nearby, Line Up Coffee is on the same side of the suburb.
