Sydenham Green Fenced Dog Park

Sydenham Green Fenced Dog Park is a large, fully fenced off-leash enclosure within the Sydenham Green reserve at 53 Railway Road, right beside Sydenham Station. It is one of the few Inner West dog parks that runs 24 hours a day with lighting for early morning and after-dark sessions, and the train access makes it the easiest one to reach without a car.

The dog setup

Dogs stay on-lead until inside the enclosure, then run free within the fence; Inner West Council also runs a secondary off-leash zone on Sydenham Green at the corner of Henry Street and Park Road. Everything else in the reserve stays on-lead, and dogs are excluded from the playground and within 10 metres of play equipment and barbecue areas. The fenced zone is big enough for a proper run, with double-gated entry so nobody bolts while leads come off. Two water stations and covered seating are on site, but bin bags are not always stocked, so carry your own.

The vibe

A regulars' park: weekday mornings and the after-work evening slot fill the fence line, and midday midweek is the quiet window for a nervous dog. One honest caveat: the park sits under the Sydney Airport flight path and jets come over low and loud. Most dogs tune it out within a visit or two, but noise-sensitive dogs may never quite settle here.

Max: if your dog startles at noise, do a trial run at a quiet hour before committing to a peak-time visit.

Getting there and parking

Sydenham Station is a short walk, which makes this one of the more transit-friendly dog parks in the Inner West. Street parking on the surrounding roads is limited, so expect a short walk if you drive at busy times.

Meraki Coffee in Sydenham is the local post-park coffee stop, and Tempe Dog Park and Enmore Fenced Dog Park are both within a short drive. Harry Noble Reserve in Erskineville suits a quieter lead walk.
