Mabel Park Fenced Dog Park

Mabel Park Fenced Dog Park is the main off-leash facility for Slacks Creek, a fully gated grassy enclosure inside the larger Mabel Park precinct on Snowdon Street. The thing that makes it worth the trip is the fencing: it is a secure, enclosed run where a dog can go flat out without you worrying about the road, which is not a given at many Logan parks.

The rules. Off-leash is permitted only inside the fenced enclosure. Everywhere else in the wider park, near the paths, sporting fields and playground, dogs must be on lead. Owners stay inside the fence and supervise at all times, clean up after their dog, and any dog showing aggression must be removed straight away.

What is there. Inside the enclosure you get benches to sit while the dogs run, partial shade from mature trees, and a water tap. The park sits beside the main Mabel Park facilities, which include toilets, BBQs and a playground, so it works as a family stop as well. Bags and bins are generally on hand, but carry your own to be safe.

Getting there. The address is Snowdon Street, Slacks Creek. Access is via Paradise Road onto Snowdon Street, just off the M1. There is good on-site parking, though it can fill on weekends. Buses run along Paradise Road within a 5 to 10 minute walk if you are on public transport.

Nearby with the dogs. For a change of scenery, Alexander Clark Park at nearby Loganholme is a popular alternative. Several cafes around the Logan Hyperdome, a few kilometres away, do outdoor dog-friendly seating for a post-run coffee.

Weekend afternoons and the early-morning and late-afternoon windows are the busy, social times. For a calmer visit, aim for a Tuesday to Thursday morning. Good for high-energy dogs that need a secure space to burn off, and for owners easing a nervous dog into off-leash socialising.
