Wilkinson Reserve is a flat, eucalypt-dotted off-leash reserve on Wilkinson Way in Park Orchards, built around a fenced sports ground that doubles as the off-leash area when it's not in use. A footpath connects through to Joseph Court, so it's an easy local loop as well as a run.

The rules. Dogs can run off-leash on the fenced ground when there's no sport on, but must go back on lead the moment a match or training session starts. Keep dogs more than 20 metres from the playground and any cycling track, carry a lead at all times, and make sure registration tags are current. Manningham rangers patrol locally and on-the-spot fines run up to $250 for breaches.

What's there. A pavilion, a sheltered BBQ area, a few benches and bins for waste. There's no water tap reported on-site, so bring a bowl.

Getting there. Reached via Park Road then Wilkinson Way, with straightforward on-street parking. It's a car trip, there's no direct public transport to the reserve itself.

Nearby with the dogs. Blue Dog Cafe on Park Road is a short drive and known to be pet-friendly, while Down The Rabbit Hole in nearby Templestowe has a heated, dog-friendly undercover area for cooler days.

When to go. Weekend mornings and late weekday afternoons bring the most local dogs, so if the fenced ground is in use by a club, the surrounding unfenced sections of the reserve are the fallback, on lead.
