Iona Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Iona Reserve is a 1.3-hectare off-leash reserve on Feversham Avenue in Park Orchards, and the pine cover is what sets it apart from the mowed ovals nearby. Informal paths wind through the trees around a natural drainage line, giving dogs a sniff-heavy wander rather than a lap of grass, and the spot is popular enough that weekends bring a steady stream of other dogs.

The dog setup

The reserve is a designated off-leash area under Manningham City Council's dog control orders. Keep your dog on lead until inside the designated area, and back on lead within 10 metres of the car park, the roadway, the picnic shelter or the sports ground while it is in use. Dogs sit out the oval during organised training or matches. Council's general buffer rules also apply: on lead within 15 metres of children's play equipment, permanent barbecues and organised events. Carry waste bags, use the provided bins, and note the two-dogs-per-person limit. Effective voice control is expected, since the tree cover and paths mean sightlines come and go.

Worth knowing

A pavilion with shelter, a BBQ and unshaded picnic tables sit beside a children's playground, so the reserve doubles as a family stop. There is no water tap on site, so bring your own bowl and supply.

Getting there and parking

The reserve sits on Feversham Avenue, with on-street parking on the avenue and surrounding residential streets. Wider sections of Feversham Avenue are the fallback when the spots near the entrance fill up on busy weekends. Bus routes along Park Road leave a walk in.

When to go

Weekday middays are the quiet window. Weekend mornings and the early evening slots are the busiest, which is great for a social dog and worth skipping if yours prefers space.
