Iona Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Iona Reserve is a 1.3-hectare, pine-covered off-leash reserve on Feversham Avenue in Park Orchards, built around a natural drainage line with informal paths winding through the trees. It's one of the more sociable off-leash spots locally, popular enough that weekends bring plenty of other dogs.

The rules. Dogs must be on lead until inside the designated off-leash area, and back on lead within 10 metres of the car park, roadway, the picnic shelter, or the sports ground while it's in use. Dogs aren't allowed on the oval during organised training or matches. Owners must pick up waste, bins are provided, and the reserve has a two-dogs-per-person limit.

What's there. A pavilion with shelter, BBQ and unshaded picnic tables, a children's playground, and informal walking paths through the pines. There's no water tap on-site, so bring a bowl.

Getting there. The reserve sits on Feversham Avenue, with on-street parking on the avenue and nearby residential streets. Bus routes run along Park Road but involve a walk in. Parking near the entrance can fill up at busy times, wider sections of Feversham Avenue are the fallback.

Nearby with the dogs. Blue Dog Cafe on Park Road offers outdoor seating and take-away, The Corner 3114 on Hopetoun Road is noted as dog-friendly, and Warrandyte Stonehouse Cafe, a short drive away, has a covered verandah with water bowls.

When to go. Weekday midday or early afternoon is the quiet option. Weekends and the early morning or late afternoon slots on weekdays are busiest, good for socialising but worth avoiding with a reactive dog.
