Ruby's Reserve Off Leash Fenced Free Council Public Parkland

Ruby's Reserve is the fully fenced off-leash dog park inside Nudgee Waterhole Reserve on Nudgee Road, a Brisbane City Council off-leash area built around a natural spring-fed lagoon with scattered shade trees. It is open 24 hours and free, and the defining feature is the double-gated fenced yard, a genuine draw if your dog bolts at gates or you want a secure spot away from traffic.

The dog setup

Off-leash runs apply inside the fenced area only; out on the surrounding reserve and lagoon walking paths, dogs go back on the leash. Council rules limit you to two dogs per person, and dogs must stay within sight and under voice control at all times. Remove your dog immediately if it turns aggressive or becomes a persistent barker, and bag and bin all waste using the dispensers and bins on site. The double-gated entry means no slip-outs while you are getting organised.

Worth knowing

Around the yard there is a water bubbler, picnic shelters, benches and a barbecue area, plus a gravel and paved path looping the lagoon with viewing platforms over waterbirds and turtles, a good leashed wander after the run. The wetland setting means mosquitoes can be persistent after rain or in humid stretches, so pack repellent. Shade is partial rather than dense, and on hot days carry water for the lagoon walk even though the bubbler covers the fenced yard. Weekday mornings and early afternoons are quietest; Sunday mornings and some weekday evenings draw the bigger crowds.

Max: check the gate is fully latched behind you before letting your dog off lead. It is double-gated for a reason, and a distracted moment is how dogs end up on the road.

Getting there and parking

The reserve sits on Nudgee Road, reachable via the Gateway Motorway at Exit 112. On-street parking is limited at the closest point, so try Childs Road nearby if the nearest spots are taken. There is no train station within easy walking distance, so plan on driving; Banyo and Northgate stations are the nearest rail options by car.
