Nudgee Recreation Reserve Fenced Dog Park sits on Elliott Road at Nudgee, a quiet inland alternative to the busier Nudgee Beach foreshore where dogs have to stay on lead for shorebird protection. The fully fenced enclosure gives Banyo and Nudgee dogs a secure run in a reserve that has been rebuilt by Brisbane City Council into a full district sports precinct.

The dog setup

It is a single large grassed enclosure rather than a split big-dog and small-dog layout, with a double-gated airlock entry that stops escapes while you arrive and leave. There is no size separation, so dogs that get overwhelmed by bigger players are better off visiting at quiet times.

Inside you get a water tap with a bowl, a covered shelter with a table plus an open seat, a bag dispenser and bins. The wider reserve adds playgrounds, barbecues and shared paths connecting towards the Downfall Creek bikeway.

Worth knowing

Council off-leash rules apply: stay inside the enclosure with your dog, keep voice control, carry a lead at all times, and leash and remove any dog showing aggression. Close both gates properly behind you, latching the first before opening the second.

Max: the double gate only works if you use it properly. Latch the outer gate before you open the inner one so nobody slips out during the swap.

Getting there and parking

The reserve is at 290 Elliott Road, Nudgee, close to the Banyo border and right by Nudgee railway station, so it is walkable for rail commuters as well as an easy drive from Banyo village. The reserve car park is large, and it usually has plenty of space outside sporting fixtures.

Close by with the dogs

For a second fenced run in the area, Nudgee Waterhole Reserve and Ruby's Reserve are both nearby fenced options worth alternating between.

Off-leash inside the fenced enclosure only; on-lead everywhere else in the reserve, and strictly on-lead along the Nudgee Beach foreshore.

When to go

Generally quiet, with weekend mornings and weekday evenings the busy windows. Mid-morning on a weekday is the calmest run for an anxious dog.
