Civic Reserve Fenced Dog Park

A large, fully fenced off-leash enclosure in the Civic Reserve precinct, open 24/7 and roughly 150 by 80 metres, with double-gated entry and water on tap. It is the busy community hub of Mornington's dog scene, with open running room and shade.

The rules. Off-leash inside the fenced enclosure; dogs must be on lead in the wider reserve and car park. Entry is through double-gated airlocks, so close each gate behind you. Keep your dog in view and under control, especially when it is busy, and clean up (bags and bins are provided). Children use the precinct, so mind dog behaviour around them.

What's there. Water taps with bowls, bench seating and trees for shade, and paved paths through the enclosure. Public toilets are on the outside of the nearby sports pavilion, and the recreation centre, skate park and regional gallery sit alongside.

Getting there. 1 Billabong Close, off Dunns Road, just south of the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery. There is ample parking near the gallery and recreation centre. Buses run along Nepean Highway and Main Street with a short walk in.

Nearby with the dogs. Main Street's dog-friendly cafes are a few minutes' drive, including Commonfolk and The Winey Cow. Pine Avenue Reserve is another fenced option nearby.

When to go. Weekday evenings, Friday nights and early mornings are the calmest. It peaks Sunday and Saturday afternoons and Wednesday mornings; go after dry weather to dodge the mud.
