Fosters Beach Dog Off Leash Area

A tiny, isolated rocky cove off the Esplanade, off-leash 24/7 all year and roughly 80 metres long. Difficult access keeps it quiet, so it suits a dog that wants space from others or a confident swimmer comfortable on rocky ground.

The rules. Off-leash 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Dogs must be on lead until they reach the cove and re-leashed on the way out. Pick up after your dog and keep clear of the local flora and fauna; the cove is unfenced, bounded by cliffs and rock.

The terrain. Small and rocky, with steep unpaved access down Nunns Walking Track, not suitable for prams or wheelchairs. Check tide times, high tide can cover most of the usable shore, so aim for low-to-mid tide.

What's there. Nothing. No bins, seating or water on site. Come prepared and take your rubbish out with you.

Getting there. Use the Fossil Beach car park opposite 630 Esplanade, then walk in via Nunns Walking Track. Public transport nearby is limited, so driving is the practical option.

Nearby with the dogs. Fossil Beach is the larger off-leash beach right next door and the obvious backup if this cove is busy. Dreamer Cafe on Dava Drive is close by and welcomes dogs inside and out.

When to go. Low-to-mid tide on a calm day. Best for a dog that prefers a quiet, rugged spot over a busy sandy beach.
