What visitors mention
A rugged, rocky off-leash beach under red cliffs on the Esplanade, designated 24/7 off-leash all year. This is a beach for exploring, fossicking and rock-pooling rather than easy sandy swimming, and the steep access track keeps the crowds thin.
The rules. The beach itself is a Green Zone, off-leash 24 hours a day, year-round. Dogs must be leashed on the access path down from the car park and kept under effective voice control on the beach, which is unfenced and backed by cliffs. Pick up after your dog (bins sit near the upper car park) and keep clear of the cliff base and wildlife.
The terrain. Rocky, with reef and pebbles rather than a long sand strip. It is best at low-to-mid tide, when more of the usable shore is exposed; high tide can cover much of it. Steady-footed dogs and confident walkers get the most out of it.
What's there. Little beyond the beach itself. Parking is a small unsealed gravel area opposite 631 Esplanade, with a short but steep unsealed track down. No toilets, dog wash or drinking water on the beach.
Getting there. Drive to 631 Esplanade; the car park is directly across on the ocean side. Buses run along the Esplanade, but driving is far more practical given the access track.
Nearby with the dogs. Dreamer Cafe is just 200 metres away and welcomes dogs inside and out. Fosters Beach is a smaller off-leash cove next door if this one is busy.

When to go. Weekday mornings at low-to-mid tide are the sweet spot, quieter and with the most beach exposed. Good for sure-footed dogs who like a rugged ramble over a swim.
