What visitors mention
A small, scenic pocket beach south of Schnapper Point, dedicated off-leash 24/7 all year and popular with locals for a sunset run. Roughly 190 metres of sand and reef backed by red sandstone bluffs, with calm bay water for a swim at the right tide.
The rules. Off-leash 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Dogs must be leashed on the access pathway and along the Esplanade, and kept clear of any signed shorebird-protection areas. Carry a lead, keep voice control, and clean up; the beach is not fenced, but cliffs back it.
The water and terrain. A mix of sand and pebbles, with rocky reef flats and rock pools exposed at low tide. The bay water is calm and good for a dog swim. At low tide the reef opens up; high tide leaves only a narrow sand strip, so mid-tide is the sweet spot for both sand space and a paddle.
What's there. Access is down steep stairs and a sloped walkway. Toilets and drinking-water taps are at the top of the stairs in nearby Mornington Park; there is nothing on the beach itself.
Getting there. 774 Esplanade. Parking on the Esplanade is limited, paid and timed; there is more parking about 150 metres north at Mornington Park. It is a short walk from the Main Street shops.
Nearby with the dogs. Main Street's dog-friendly cafes are a short walk up the hill, including The Winey Cow with its dog menu and Kirks on the Esplanade right opposite the foreshore.

When to go. Early morning or late afternoon at mid-tide is the pick, fewer crowds and the best balance of sand and water. Sunny weekends and summer holidays draw a busy mid-morning-to-late-afternoon crowd.
