Unfenced Dog Leash Free Park

The Unfenced Dog Leash Free Park is a grassy, tree-shaded stretch of Maroochy River foreshore along Bradman Avenue in Maroochydore, starting near the Fishermans Road intersection and running about 500 metres toward the river mouth. Dogs can swim and run off-lead here, but nothing is fenced and the riverbank is edged by a busy road, so recall has to be rock solid.

The dog setup

The riverbank gives easy access to calm water for a swim, and the grassy foreshore suits ball games and walking, working best at lower to mid tide when more sand is exposed. Picnic tables, benches and shaded grass line the strip, with roadside and gravel-bay parking along Bradman Avenue.

Sunshine Coast Council rules apply: dogs must stay under effective voice control, must not chase people, dogs or wildlife, and are excluded from playgrounds, barbecue zones and sports fields. Bring your own waste bags, since dispensers are not reliably stocked.

Worth knowing

Council updated its dog rules across the Sunshine Coast in July 2026, and off-leash windows at foreshore parks like this one can shift with them, so read the on-site signage for current hours and boundaries before unclipping. Dogs stay on-lead in the car parks and on the shared walkways regardless.

There are no public toilets right at the main off-leash section, though general foreshore facilities sit nearby. Mosquitoes can be thick at dusk, so pack repellent for evening visits.

The address is 361 Bradman Avenue, Maroochydore, with parking along the roadside and in the gravel bays. Sunbus services run along Bradman Avenue, and a pedestrian path runs the length of the park, though keep dogs on-lead near the verge given the traffic.

Make a day of it
