MURRAYS on sixth

MURRAYS on sixth is a licensed breakfast-and-lunch espresso bar at Unit 1/78 Sixth Avenue, Maroochydore, a short walk from Cotton Tree and the beachfront, and it is one of the Sunshine Coast's genuinely committed dog cafes: homemade dog treats and puppuccinos are a standing part of the offer, not a favour asked for.

The dog setup

Dogs settle in beside you at the casual outdoor seating out the front, and the staff are plainly used to canine regulars. Water bowls are available on site, and the doggie menu runs to homemade dog cookies and puppuccinos. The front area is relaxed and open, which suits a dog that likes to watch the street while you work through breakfast.

Max: walk the coastal path first, arrive by 7am, and you get the cool air, an easy table and a dog treat that was actually baked in the kitchen.

Worth knowing

Doors open at 6am, seven days, and the kitchen wraps at 2pm. The menu covers all-day cafe eating - eggs benedict, corn fritters, bacon and egg rolls and a proper BLT - with a case of freshly baked muffins, scones and cakes and a good run of gluten-free options. The licence kicks in from 10am if you want a drink with lunch.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits on Sixth Avenue near the First Avenue junction. Street parking runs along Sixth Avenue and the surrounding residential streets, and it is an easy walk if you are staying around Cotton Tree. Maroochydore Beach is a few blocks east and the riverfront is just as close, so a walk either side of coffee is simple.

Close by with the dogs

For an off-lead run first, Unfenced Dog Leash Free Park is close by. Ocean Folk Espresso and Criminal Coffee Company are other dog-friendly coffee stops around Maroochydore.
