Ardrie Park Dog Off Leash Area

Ardrie Park is a leafy Stonnington reserve off Ardrie Road in Malvern East, framed by mature elm trees. The off-leash area is the southern oval only, and it is not fully fenced, so recall and supervision matter more here than at a fenced park.

The rules. Off-leash is limited to the southern oval. Dogs must be on-leash near the playground, the tennis courts and the garden beds, and under voice control at all times in the off-leash zone. Carry a lead and pick up after your dog; bins and bags are provided, though it is worth carrying your own.

What is there. The elms give genuinely good natural shade in summer, and there are benches and picnic tables. Drinking water with a dog bowl is available. The playground and public toilets sit in the northern, on-leash part of the park.

Getting there. Access is via Ardrie Road with street parking, which can tighten near the tennis club at peak times. Tram Route 3 runs along Waverley Road a short walk away, and buses run along Dandenong Road.

Watch-outs. Because the off-leash oval is unfenced, keep an eye on dogs with patchy recall, and steer clear of the fenced garden beds and courts.

When to go. Weekday mornings are the calmest. Evenings through the week and Saturday mornings are the busiest, and parking is tightest when the tennis club is active. Good for social dogs with reliable recall.
