Ardrie Park Dog Off Leash Area

Ardrie Park is a leafy Stonnington reserve off Ardrie Road in Malvern East, framed by mature elms and anchored by a southern oval that doubles as the suburb's off-leash ground. It is a handsome, well-kept park rather than a rough dog paddock, and it is not fully fenced.

The dog setup

Off-leash is limited to the southern oval, with dogs on-lead everywhere else: near the playground, the tennis courts and the garden beds. In the off-leash zone dogs stay under voice control at all times and you carry a lead. The bowl sits near the oval edge, so fill it before you unclip rather than halfway through the session.

Bins and bags are provided, though carrying your own is the usual insurance. Drinking water with a dog bowl is available, which is more than most locals expect from a suburban oval.

Worth knowing

The elms give genuinely good natural shade through summer, and benches and picnic tables ring the oval for the handlers. The playground and public toilets sit in the northern, on-lead half, so family logistics work even if the dog is on the oval.

Because the ground is open, recall matters: the oval borders Ardrie Road on one side, and tennis traffic passes close by at busy times. Weekend afternoons mix dog regulars with family picnics, which suits social dogs and tests the patience of busy ones.

Getting there and parking

Access is via Ardrie Road with street parking along the park edge, which tightens near the tennis club at peak times. Weekday mornings are the calmest window; the oval is open around the clock. The 6 tram and the stations at Malvern and Armadale put you within walking distance of the park.
