The Wedge

The Wedge is the local name for Pawfield Park, the fenced off-leash dog area on the western side of the Caulfield Racecourse Reserve in Caulfield East, near the corner of Booran Road and Glen Eira Road. It is Glen Eira City Council's only fully fenced off-leash park, which is why it draws owners from well beyond the immediate streets: open running room, mature shade trees, and separate zones that keep big and small dogs apart.

The dog setup

Inside the fence, dogs run off-leash under voice control at all times. The council has kitted it out beyond the usual flat lawn: basic agility equipment, shaded seating, water fountains with bowls, and waste bags on site, though it is worth carrying your own as backup. The wider racecourse reserve is only partly fenced, so keep an eye on your dog near any open access points onto the broader grounds.

Max: this is the park for dogs that need a real run. Give the small-dog zone a miss if yours is a rough player, because the separation only works when everyone respects it.

The vibe

Weekday mornings before work and weekend mornings are the busiest windows; a weekday midday is the calm slot. The wedge was designed to stay accessible to the community year-round, including on race days, but it always pays to check the Caulfield Racecourse events calendar or on-site signage before a big race meeting. Expect a mix of locals, Monash students with dogs, and owners who drive in specifically because it is the biggest fenced run in Glen Eira.

Getting there and parking

Entry points sit off Booran Road on the reserve's western side, with on-site parking available. If you are coming by public transport, Caulfield Station (Pakenham, Cranbourne and Frankston lines) is a short walk away and trams on Balaclava Road stop close by, which makes this an easy car-free outing.

Close by with the dogs

Mr Brightside Cafe on Booran Road keeps water bowls in its outdoor seating, and Xpose Cafe on Glen Huntly Road is another nearby stop that takes dogs. If one fence is not enough, Caulfield Park Dog Off Leash Area to the north and Central Park Dog Off Leash Area in Malvern East are both easy add-ons.
