The Wedge is the local name for the fenced off-leash dog area within the Caulfield Racecourse Reserve, near the corner of Kambrook Road and Station Street, Caulfield East. It is a large grassy, part-fenced space with a mix of open running room and shaded seating, and separate zones to keep big and small dogs apart.

The rules. Off-leash use requires voice control at all times. The reserve is large and only partly fenced, so keep an eye on your dog near any open access points into the wider racecourse grounds. It is not open to dogs during official race meetings, so check signage before you head over on race days.

What's there. Basic agility equipment, shaded seating under mature trees, water fountains with bowls, and on-site parking. Dog waste bags are provided but it is worth carrying your own as a backup.

Getting there. Entry points are off Kambrook Road. It is a short walk from Caulfield Station (Pakenham, Cranbourne and Frankston lines) and trams on Balaclava Road stop close by.

Nearby with the dogs. Mr Brightside Cafe on Booran Road in Caulfield South has dog-friendly outdoor seating and water bowls. Coffee Ministry on Hawthorn Road in Caulfield North is another well-reviewed dog-friendly stop. A few motels and serviced apartments near Glen Eira Road and Caulfield Station take dogs on request, worth confirming pet policy before booking.

When to go. Weekday mornings before work and Saturday-Sunday mornings are the busiest windows. For a calmer visit, aim for a weekday midday. Always check the Caulfield Racecourse events calendar first, since race days close the area. Good for owners after a bigger, more open off-leash run than a small suburban park offers.
