Caulfield Park Dog Off Leash Area

Caulfield Park's off-leash area covers the central sporting ovals, a big, open, unfenced stretch that's popular with runners and dogs who want room to move. It sits on Balaclava Road in Caulfield North, a short walk from Caulfield Station, and stays usable most of the day since off-leash rules only pause when a game or training session is on.

The rules. Dogs can run off-leash on the central ovals (numbered roughly 2 to 6) whenever no sports training or match is in progress. Keep dogs on-leash within 20 metres of any sporting activity, and on-leash entirely near the playgrounds, the lakes, the walking paths, and at both the Hawthorn Road and Park Crescent ends of the park. The main off-leash area has no fencing, so dogs need to be reliably under control off the lead.

What's there. Watering stations with bowls are set up along the ovals and near the tennis rebound wall, and there are bag dispensers and bins throughout. Public toilets are near Inkerman Road, near the pavilion, and near the Park Crescent playground. The park is well lit, which helps for evening visits.

Getting there. There's a free car park off Balaclava Road plus ample street parking on the surrounding streets. Tram route 3/3a runs along Hawthorn Road nearby, and Caulfield Station is a short walk away if you're arriving by train.

Nearby with the dogs. Common Room Co on Kooyong Road runs a dog menu and welcomes dogs in its outdoor seating, an easy stop before or after a walk.

Weekday mid-mornings and late evenings after 8pm are the quietest times to visit. Saturday mornings and weekday evenings from 5pm draw the biggest crowds, so if your dog prefers space, stick to the edges or come outside those windows.
