Armadale Reserve Off Leash Park

Armadale Reserve Off Leash Park is a long, narrow grassy strip on Sutherland Road in Armadale, a quiet residential reserve that locals lean on for a proper off-lead run without leaving the neighbourhood. The strip runs roughly 130 metres, which is enough for a decent ball chase in an inner-east suburb where open ground is scarce.

The dog setup

Dogs can run off-leash across the reserve under effective voice control, with one firm exception: the small children's playground at the eastern end, where leads go back on. City of Stonnington rules apply throughout, including a cap of four dogs per person and a leash carried at all times even while your dog is running free. Clean-up is compulsory, with bins and bag dispensers on site, and dogs stay out of the garden beds.

Worth knowing

Amenities are better than most suburban strips: established shade trees, several benches, and a water tap with a bowl on the southern side. There are no public toilets on site, and lighting is limited, so this is a daylight park. The reserve is not fenced, and there is foot traffic around it, so it suits confident dogs with solid recall.

Getting there

Street parking on Sutherland Road can be tight when the park is busy. Armadale and Toorak stations are both about a 10 to 15 minute walk, and the number 6 tram on Malvern Road puts you close as well.

When to go

Weekend afternoons and Sunday evenings draw the biggest crowds; Tuesday and Thursday are noticeably quieter if your dog prefers fewer dogs around.

Close by with the dogs

Once the run is done, Coin Laundry Cafe is a short walk for brunch with outdoor seating. If you need a fully fenced option, Harber Fenced Dog Park is nearby and Pawfield Park Fenced Dog Park at Caulfield East has separate small and large dog yards.
