Mr Sister is a relaxed neighbourhood brunch cafe on Waverley Road in Malvern East, and the reason to bring the dog is the rear courtyard: partially undercover and heated, so it works year-round rather than only on fine mornings.

The dog setup. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the rear courtyard, which is partly covered and heated for cooler days. There is also street-facing footpath seating under umbrellas out the front if the courtyard is full. Dogs are kept to the outdoor and courtyard areas rather than inside. Staff are used to dogs and happy to bring a water bowl on request.

Good to know. It runs an all-day brunch menu with the usual crowd-pleasers, smashed avocado, zucchini fritters and a well-regarded potato rosti, plus solid coffee. Service tends to be quick, which helps when you have a dog waiting at your feet.

Getting there. Street parking is on Waverley Road and the side streets, and it fills on weekend mornings, so aim early. Trams run along Waverley Road and Caulfield station is a walkable distance.

Nearby with the dogs. Combine it with an off-leash run: Percy Treyvaud Memorial Park and Ardrie Park are both a short trip away, and Waverley Park is closer still.
