This fenced off-leash park on Kingston View Drive gives dogs a safe, enclosed run on a grassed slope with Derwent River views, with a separate section for small or shy dogs. Check before you go: the site is scheduled to close to make way for the AFL High Performance Centre, with a replacement park planned for Maddocks Road, Kingston.

The rules. The area is fenced, but dogs still need to be under effective control. Waste bags are provided at the gate, though it pays to carry your own in case the dispenser is empty. Stay within the fenced boundary; the adjoining sports fields run to different rules.

What's there. Water taps, bench seating, rubbish bins and partial shade are dotted through the grounds. The grass has had reported potholes, so keep an eye on fast-running dogs.

Getting there. The park sits inside the Kingborough Sports Precinct off Channel Highway, with plenty of roadside parking on Kingston View Drive itself. The nearest bus stops are a short walk away on the highway or within the residential estate.

Nearby with the dogs. True Brew and other Kingston cafes are a short drive away, and Kingston Beach's pet-friendly stretch is close if you want to turn the visit into a longer outing.

A fence is not a substitute for recall. Council still expects dogs under control here, and the closure means this spot may not be available much longer, so check current status before planning a trip.

When to go. Weekday mornings (7-9am) and late afternoons (4-6pm) draw the regulars; midday on weekends gets busy too. Given the closure is in motion, ring ahead or check Kingborough Council's site before making a special trip, and have Maranoa Heights Reserve as a backup.
