Kingston View Drive Fenced Dog Park

Status first: the Kingston View Drive fenced dog park is closed. Kingborough Council shut the off-lead area inside the Kingborough Sports Precinct in mid 2026 to clear the site for the Tasmania Devils AFL High Performance Centre, and the ground is now a construction zone. It is worth knowing what this park offered, because its replacement is already taking shape nearby.

What this park was

The park gave dogs a safe, enclosed run on a grassed slope above Kingston, with water taps, bench seating, rubbish bins, waste bags at the gate and partial shade. A separate section catered for small or shy dogs and greyhounds, and the Derwent River views made it a pleasant stop for owners. Its popularity, and the reported potholes in the grass, spoke to how well used it was.

What is replacing it

Council has established a replacement off-lead dog exercise area on Maddocks Road, Kingston, with initial sections open for public use while the grounds establish. Check Kingborough Council's website for the current status before making a special trip, because the site has been opening in stages.

Max: do not drive to Kingston View Drive expecting a run. The fence line is still there but the gate is closed, and construction traffic has taken over the paddock.

Where to go instead

Until the Maddocks Road site settles in, Kingston dog owners have solid options: Maranoa Heights Reserve on Hawthorn Drive has a designated off-lead area with open space and trails in the same suburb. For fully fenced runs, Suncoast Fenced Dog Park at Blackmans Bay has agility equipment and a double-gated enclosure, and Dru Point Fenced Dog Park at Margate pairs its fenced area with water views and walking paths.
