Kingston Reserve

Kingston Reserve is one of Kingborough Council's declared off-leash dog exercise areas, a straightforward local green space for a run rather than a marquee destination. What it offers is space and simplicity, a few minutes from the Kingston shops.

The rules

Dogs can be exercised off-lead within the declared area but must stay under effective control, which in practice means a reliable recall, no chasing other park users and no wildlife. Leads go back on for surrounding streets and footpaths outside the declared boundary.

Under the Tasmanian Dog Control Act, dogs stay out of playground zones and off active sports grounds while play is underway, so check the on-site signage for the exact declared boundary before unclipping. Carry your own bags in case the bins are empty.

The dog setup

This is an open grass reserve without fencing, agility gear or dedicated dog water, so bring your own bowl and treat it as a recall space rather than a dog park. The flat ground suits a ball session or a steady off-lead leg of a longer neighbourhood walk.

Note that the long-popular Kingston View Drive off-lead area has been closed for sports precinct works, with council directing users to other declared areas, so double-check current signage rather than relying on older maps.

Getting there and parking

The reserve sits within Kingston, reachable from the Channel Highway, with local street parking nearby. Buses along the Channel route put you within walking distance of the reserve edges.

When to go

Early mornings and early evenings draw the regular local walkers, and midday is usually quiet. After rain, the lower ground holds water, so expect a wet dog if you throw balls anyway.

Maranoa Heights Reserve offers another declared off-lead patch in the suburb, and for a fully fenced session Suncoast Fenced Dog Park sits a short drive south at Blackmans Bay.
